Real Life Forrest Gump Runs Across America And Proposes To His Lady Love At Finish Line
A man who wanted to make a difference has realized his wish of running across America, just like Forrest Gump. Luckily, unlike the movie the real story has a happy ending which makes it so good.
Rob Pope decided to have a twist after reaching the finish line. It was not just a copy of Tom Hanks’ iconic character. After all, his mother had told him that he must do one thing in his life to make a difference in the world.
His journey across America is aimed at making this world a better place to live.
He said: “I’d had a number of half-hearted attempts trying to put a run together, but after watching ‘Forrest Gump’ one night, I had a light-bulb moment.”
It was on September 16, 2016, that he began his journey, starting from his run from Mobil, Alabama. He covered a distance of 40 miles per day on an average amidst harsh weather conditions, unpredictable rain, and unforgiving snow.
All he wanted to do is raise money for his two chosen charities, the World Wildlife Foundation and Peace Direct.
Finally, after 422 days and 15,607 miles, he completed the journey and was able to raise almost $50,000 for the charities. However, the major twist was yet to come. He proposed to Nadine, his partner and mother of his child.
Speaking about the proposal, he said: “it meant everything to me to have Nadine and our newborn daughter, Bee, there at the finish line. Nadine has been my rock. I couldn’t have done it without her – proposing in that moment felt right.
“Seeing my daughter Bee born was even more motivation – having her and Nadine at the finish was a dream come true I’m unbelievably proud and still surprised to a degree that I actually made it.”
